It's tough for the Australian squad to break new ground.

The highest peaks have been successfully scaled.

We're talking about the squad that has claimed seven Cricket World Cups, in addition to an additional six T20 titles, and earlier maintained over three years unbeaten in 50-over cricket.

The secondary achievements, those for the peak baggers, are the only things left for a team that has accomplished all there is.

That it took up to Sunday's three-wicket win over India for them to complete their first ODI chase above 300, regaining their record for the biggest in women's cricket's 50-over format, is, honestly, a compliment to the bowlers that have sported the yellow jersey over the past 50 years.

It is hard for their hitters to maintain a record if not provided the opportunity.

Finally, the consequence of Australia allowing 330 runs was captain Alyssa Healy getting an opportunity to produce her latest masterpiece.

Then best known as the young family member of famous ex Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she debuted in 2010 after her nation didn't secure either of the 20 or 50-over World Cups from the prior year and has experienced everything through 15 championship-filled years since.

A T20 championship victory came three months after her bow and seven world titles have followed from 10 efforts across formats.

The determined wicketkeeper was in attendance in Derby in 2017 when a last-four loss by India briefly halted the winning streak.

That loss "motivated us to rethink our standards," Healy stated recently.

At the next 50-over World Cup in New Zealand, Healy made 170 against England in the championship match and was awarded tournament MVP. She made sure her country would not fall short again.

The question of whether this latest epic knock exceeded that prior achievement can be debated.

Some will argue the argument supporting championship match pressure. Some might respond with the difficulty that comes when pursuing an unprecedented total and an enthusiastic Indian fanbase of 20,000.

What is certain is this century was far harder to predict.

The New Zealand onslaught in 2022 happened while she topped the run-scoring charts, but this performance came after six matches in India since the start of last month in which she had been unable to reach 30.

"For those following me in the nets, it's been a frustrating experience because I feel like my form was missing completely," said Healy.

"But once you step out on the field, your competitive instincts take over and you completely engage with the contest."

Healy's competitiveness has continuously been her key asset - and a priceless quality in replacing legendary former captain Meg Lanning.

She was tormented by India's rising star Kranti Gaud in the previous month's ODI series, out to the 22-year-old seamer in every game, but here that only provided Healy's spark.

One run resulted off the opening delivery and from there Healy was in motion.

"The possibility to play and face the challenge with her and just have a bit of fun in that regard, somewhat inspired me," said Healy.

She achieved fifty in 35 pitches - her quickest at the global tournament - and her century in 84 balls as she attacked short-pitched balls, striking 21 boundaries and three sixes.

When she was dismissed the team needed 66 additional runs at one run per ball - an achievable target now demanding an easy conclusion.

"Chasing 330 runs is uncharted waters so I am glad we have the confidence to do that now," stated Healy further.

"Hopefully we don't have to do it another time but, should it happen, we believe we can achieve it."

Those words will be the last competing nations at this championship should hear.

Over the past five days a sense they will win from any position has grown stronger - this success coming after victory over Pakistan by 107 runs despite being 76-7 at one stage.

Following this Australia face Bangladesh before an encounter with longtime competitors England in Indore in a week and a half, by which point a last-four spot may well be secure.

It was at that stage they left the prior year's T20 World Cup in a shock defeat by South Africa - an encounter Healy missed because of ruptured tissue in her foot as she captained her nation for the inaugural occasion at a significant event.

Such is her determination, she afterwards commented she regretted not playing despite the injury.

But while she afterwards confessed those physical issues have postponed plans to retire, this World Cup is likely to be her last as captain in ODI cricket and she is yet to win an international tournament as skipper.

Victory in India would take her to the summit of her ultimate challenge.
