Lando Norris Leads Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
Lando Norris has outscored Oscar Piastri at each of the past five grands prix.
Lando Norris edged out fellow driver and title rival Oscar Piastri for the fastest time in the final moments of practice at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
The British racer, who grabbed the championship lead from his teammate by just one point after taking the win in Mexico City a fortnight back, beat the Australian by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Before then, Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair throughout the hour before the sprint shootout due at the evening session.
The Red Bull star, the sole remaining contender in the points battle, trailing 36 points Norris, finished in 17th place as his team opted for a alternative strategy.
His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the only driver to go off, albeit lightly, when he spun at the fourth corner early in the session.
The Japanese slid over the curbs on exit before sliding over the gravel trap, and was fortunate to get away with just a light touch of the fence.
The Ferrari of the seven-time champion also had a spin, at the final moments of the practice, spinning around through the quick descending corner before the final bend on to the pit straight.
The veteran ended the session in P19, one place behind team-mate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren drivers were far ahead of the other competitors, with the German's Sauber third fastest, over half a second slower than the Australian's time.
The Aston Martin of the Spanish driver was fourth quickest, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto in front of the Mercedes of George Russell and the Alpine of Pierre Gasly and Williams' Carlos Sainz.
